Our Story
WHO WE ARE
Lyle Zimbler called Oak Park, Illinois home for decades. Surrounded by the charming homes built in the 1890s-1940s, he grew to love the architecture—and the beautiful wooden furniture and doors that make each house unique.
What started as a hobby helping neighbors restore their dining room tables, chairs, and built-in shelves quickly became a true passion. Over time, Lyle became known for his skill with everything from everyday furniture to the intricate front doors of Victorian, American Four-Square, and Arts & Crafts homes.
After years of teaching middle school and working as a reading specialist, Lyle decided to turn his love of restoration into his full-time work. His background in education gave him the patience, care, and attention to detail that now define every project he takes on.
WHAT WE DO
After fifteen years, Zimbler Furniture Refinishing continues to serve homeowners across
Chicagoland, Southwest Michigan, and South Bend, Indiana—which Lyle now proudly calls
home (Go Irish!).
Each piece that comes into the shop is treated as if it were his own. Whether it’s a family
heirloom, a favorite chair, or a door that’s seen generations pass through, Lyle takes pride in bringing the wood’s natural beauty back to life.
Most of his clients come from word of mouth—and more than 80% return with new projects. That’s because at Zimbler Furniture Refinishing it’s not just about restoring furniture; it’s about helping preserve the stories and history that make a house feel like home.
